The UKF Group has recently invested in a new Flowdrill machine, manufactured by Midlands-based machine specialist Nortech. Hours of testing in-situ at the Bromsgrove Production Site has ensured it is now ready to start fulfilling customers orders.

An off-the-shelf Flowdrill machine is a drilling machine which uses heat and friction to locally displace material in order to form increased material thickness. This increased thickness allows for a stronger fastening connection for threading, welding and brazing. Its most commonly used on steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and brass alloys.

The Flowdrill machine purchased by UKF is however, like no other, as it’s been specifically designed by our own Senior Manufacturing Engineer Richard Ewen. This bespoke Flowdrill machine displaces the material but in the same process cycle threads the newly created hole.

In addition to all the normal advantages of a Flowdrill such as, reliability, fast production cycle time, no material waste and no single fasteners, our machine delivers a product that provides a threaded hole in one simple, fast process. Once the product has been inserted into the machine, the process is all fully automated and CNC controlled.

When asked about the new machine Richard commented “It’s been a lot of hard work, but its finally here, doing what I designed it to do.”
